The wind vanes I have installed were normally placed at the top of the mast, on the end cap. If the wind vane is for visual only, I would suggest drilling two holes and tap them to the top plate of the mast, then use a small aluminum flat bar and extend the vane about 6 inches towards the stern of the boat so that it amkes it easier to see from the helm as well, it will take it away from any other obstacles at the top like a VHF antenna as such. If you are using a wine vane monitor for an apparent wind monitor, then repeat the procedure but put it in the forward part of the plate!!!!! :dance:
