Mast wiring

Does anyone know how the wires are ran to the mast. I have a 1983 H22.

To the starboard side of the centerboard trunk and up through the compression post. You have to pull the bulkhead out of the way to get to them but there isn't anything securing them. You could use the old wire as a snake.

Do they go up through the 3x3 post?

Yes right up through the post from the centerboard trunk. From the trunk they run back tot the switch panel.

Can you tell me what kind of wire you used to do your wiring? I need to rewire my masthead lightt and have been looking for cable. I have 4 conductor cable that I think is 20 gauge and am having a hard time findig it.

My mask only uses 2 wires. I used I think it was 16 gauge wire do different colors natural colors are used was white and purple cuz that's what I had. Napa auto do you usually carries the wire. It's a high quality water in it will hold up and weather conditions. You can always kit 4 different colors and lace them together with wire ties. Just remember did you have to splice the wires together. Soldered them, put silicone paste on them and use heat shrink.

Just buy a spool of this. You'll have extra for pumps etc.

And I doubt its 20 gauge. I think mine was at least 16 gauge.

Drumbeater's got it right...Don't mess around with auto wire, use marine grade as it is tinned and therefore MUCH more corrosion-resistant. 14-16 ga should suffice for the length of the mast run.

And, excellent advice, James, to use heat shrink (moisture seal as well as mechanical support of the connection), ...IF you should have to splice (avoid if possible) !
