mast wiring modification

The wiring thru the mast for the deck lite and steaming lite was severed while the mast was being stepped. In lew of pulling the stick, Would an opening drilled at the base of the mast to retrieve the wires be an unwise thing to do? First of all, would the wires be accessable thru a 3/4 dia hole?,and at what location would it be least crtical to the mast?

How does the wire loom pass through the deck? Beneath the mast or through a deck gland?

the wires come from below thru the mast tabernackle.

Might find out what your yard charges to step a mast. It used to be a lot less than a haul out around here.
