Mast Wires in Compression Post?

I saw a gentleman post pictures of his compression post from a Hunter 36 and it had a channel running down its back. I assume this is for mast wiring. Does anyone know if this is standard. I have a 81 27' and will doing some wiring in the mast and down into the boat and need to see if this is how it works.

There are no wires in the compression post of my1980 Hunter 30. They enter the boat through the thru-deck conduit and make a pot side turn to the inside edge of the boat and then head back to the electrical panels.

Even if you do have a conduit there, I would remove it. I don't like the 'wires going down compression post' idea one bit, as it's just a highway for water ingress.
