I just took my Vega out for the first time on Thursday and the mast mounted winches were SCREAMING for some grease. Sounded awfully dry in there. Are there any tricks to this? I don't want pieces and springs jumping out into the water when I unscrew something.
thanks,

Hi

Just be careful when you take the winches apart. Make sure you have a
bag or cloth to catch any floating bits that may spring out. They are
quite easy to take apart and will need cleaning thoroughly. I used
petrol to clean them then dried and used a slight smear of winch grease
when I re-assembled them. The difference was fantastic. Take your time
and ensure everythoing is clean before you grease and assemble.

Cheers

A light grease that is available from all Chandleries. If not available
then a light waterproof grease will do but don’t overdo the grease (very
important), just a smear
