Can anyone tell me with some degree of accuracy what a mast on an '85 C-22 weighs ? I'm in the process of designing a winch-driven mast raising system, but I need to know what kind of load I should expect on the winch at various angles. Thanks in advance

Wow, weights and forces are two different things.

As a former 22 owner, the mast isn't really heavy....guessing, maybe 75 lbs. Make sure you have some sort of gin pole or other arrangement to improve the initial angle of lift. I didn't use a winch....simply a 4 to 1 block arrangement....took no effort at all. brad

To simplify the answer

Everyone likes designing things for their boat, even me, but when it comes to mast raising systems I let the pro's figure that out. I can tell you though, with my mast raising system I use my mainsheet blocks and line. My wife can raise the mast with one hand and she is barely 5' tall 118 lbs. So you can put alot of work into designing your own or you can use one already put together. For me it was worth the money to purchase one. Dave LaPere

Where do you purchase a mast raising system?

Where is there a mast raising system available for purchase? I just bought a 1974 C22 that didn't have any form of mast raising system. I am trying to come up with a good idea for one myself at the moment. Thanks. Ryan
