Mast/Water/Support Post

As I am new to sailing, I have a some questions which may have a rather simple answer, but I don't have the answers, so here are the questions:Where does rain water go running down the mast? Is it blocked with a sleeve of some sort or does it run down the support post into the bilge? Is this how support posts rot and how should one attempt to keep water away from the area when winterizing? Greg

Wiring Tube

There is a hole in the mast step/base that allows the wires to pass through. It usually isn't chalked so water goes in and rots the wood post. This is one of many design problems with that vessel and the reason they are inexpensive
