Tuning the H240 rig

The H240 and H260 standing rigging are nearly identical. They both use 5/32" and 1/8" Hackensack 316 stainless cable. An easy way to verify this is to go to the H240/260 manual at this link: http://www.ayesail.net/sailing/Hunter/ManualH260/HunterTitlePage.htm The standing rigging specs for your boat are at page 46a and 47a. You'll find instructions for verifying that the spar is centered and raked at this link: http://kobernus.com/hunter260/rigging/rigging.html Shroud tension is set at 20 percent of nominal breaking strength. The RD1 (1/8" / 3.2mm cable) shroud should be set to about 350 lbs and the others about 550lbs. You don't measure the forestay as this tension is set by the other stays. Note: These are maximum values. The objective is to ensure there are no slack leeward shrouds or shifting of the spar. Use common sense here. If your rigging appears to perform well with lesser values go with the lower number until you are convinced higher tension is needed. Caution: You won't find many people at your yacht club familar with the B & R rig so only rely on advice from someone who REALLY knows what they are talking about. Michael will probably chime in here - he's an experienced H240 owner.

Thanks George!!

Hi George, Many thanks for the information. I have the ONLY B&R rig at my club, but have a few friends that are very knowledgeable! Had an awesome sail today, each time I am getting more comfortable....a 240 sure is a step up from a Sunfish!! Anita
