I am sure this info is on this site, but I have looked and can't find it. (OK, I am rushed a bit cause I cover the auto sector as a reporter and this summer's events are not helping my boating.) I bought the boat rigged last year and have replaced old closed turnbuckles with open ones and am now looking for advise on tuning the upper and lower shrouds and backstay (I have a furler so my forestay is fixed). Can I do this safely by feel. If so, is there a rule of thumb? Or do I need a tension gauge? If so, what kind and what are the settings? I am worried about being too tight when wind hits rig. I don't race and am simply looking to daysail (when work allows and my wife doesn't have me working on the house). Sorry for posting a question that must have been asked many times before. FYI--I am not sure if the lower shrouds have been upgraded.

There is a lot of technical information on the Cat 30 International website
http://www.catalina30.com/

I too am rigging my boat for the first time this year. I pulled this off their site and it helped a lot.
