Last spring I mounted my VHF antenna at my mast top to give it maximum signal range. I had to move the windex back about five inches, so I built a new bracket. I have uploaded pictures of the antenna mount, cable thru hull fitting, and cabin headliner radio mount on the photo forum and my personal sailing web site, northstarsailing. I have started a series of in depth descriptions of my H-260 projects on my web sight and welcome any new ideas. I hope these descriptions and pictures help others as much as the projects on hunterowners.com have helped me improve my 260, Wandrin' Star. Brigg

Nice work Brigg.

Saw your photo essay and checked out your web-site. You have done a lot of work, your H260 looks great. Thanks for sharing the results.

Might want to cover the coax from sun.

I saw the picture of the installation on your antenna, looks like a nice job. A suggestion, the sun really does a number on coax exposed to it. You might want to think about somehow covering the coax that comes out of the mast. It might make it last a little longer. I put some black split loom tubing around the wire that leaves the mast and attaches to the antenna.

Metz Antenna

I can't tell you how many times we lost the wire antenna on the Metz antenna. We must have lost 3-4 while trailering. Finally switched to the Shakespear. So far about 4,000 miles no lost antenna.

Drip Loop

You should consider putting a little more coax between the hole in the mast and the antenna. You want to have a "J" shape to the exposed wire so rainwater drips off the bottom of the loop. The way you have it, the coax will route rainwater into the mast. I know you have a gasket of some sort, but water will find any imperfection. And it is a nice looking piece of workmanship!
