I need to add a block for an asymetrical spinnaker to my mast head. Does anyone do anything special to prevent the shackle screw-pin from backing out, ie. Loctite or seizing wire? Thanks, CVP

Masthead sheave?
I'm curious, don't you have provision at the masthead to add an extra sheave and halyard? It would seem possible that you wouldn't need a block, just an extra shaft and sheave for the additional halyard, it might even go on the same shaft with the existing jib halyard sheave if ther is a spacer in the mastead casting. a lot of boats either already have or have at least the accomodations for a second jib halyard. What boat do you sail?

1983, O'Day 23. I don't think there is room within the internal shreave space, but a loop is built into the mast head for such a block. I'll see if there are other examples out there of how to attach the head of a spinnaker. Thanks for the input. CVP

zap strap
I like small zap-straps (wire ties). to secure shackles. Easy to install and easy to remove. Just make sure that the plastic has UV protection or is rated for outdoor use.

Loctite, but use the correct type.
Loctite is an excellent choice for this purpose. You really don't want to go back up and replace or check it. Just make sure that you are using the proper type for your application. The make many different types.
