Mast Support

Does anyone see a problem with removing the mast support (4 x 6 fir Beam) while the boat is on stands, and the mast off. I am working on replacing the port side left bulkead because the prior owner ripped a mast stay out, because of rotten wood. He re-glassed and repaird the cabin top, but never got to the bulkhead. I have all the teak removed, and the mast support will move with a little nudge. I am just concerned about stability on the boat stands. The support and I beam are solid as a rock, but the Teak plywood over the I beam is delaminating so it makes the most sense to fix it now. Would a couple of temps be the wise course of action?

I have a 30 Hunter 1978. Can't see where it would be a problem to remove the pressure post. I took my mast down and pulled the pressure post and put in a new SS Ibeam in bilge. Replaced the pressure post, put the teak trim back on it. Also cut out part of the cabin top where the mast sets (except the inside cabin liner). Took out the wood and replaced it all with glass. Getting ready to put the mast back any time now. Good Luck Steve

Thanks Steve

I thought that was the case, I am going to take it our tomorrow. I spent most of the day drilling out teak plugs, ony to find a better way on this board today. Murphy's Law apply to sailboats?
