mast support

I think that I am getting a hauler to move my H26 that I am buying due to not having a trailer. I do not have a mast carrier for the back to support the mast while I move it. Does anyone have and suggestions of what I can do? I do have a mast carrier for my H216 that I am selling. thanks, david

Couple of scrap 2x4's and a 4" bolt w/nut. Strap mast to front bow pulpit, allow to rest on a piece of wood on the mast step and use your 2x4 "X" resting on the cockpit seats to support the rear. Strap everything down good to prevent movement.

thanks Brad, I never thought of using wood. quick question- the front will be on wood and also the back. If I put the x on the seats, will not the back be lower than the front? I can seem to get the picture in my head. Thanks again! david

I don't think it will be a problem.. just drill your pivot holes about a foot or so from the end of the wood so the 'legs' are long enough to give you the required height.. think of it as a lopsided X with the lower portions long and top portions very short. Also, 2x4's may be a bit overkill.. Depending on mast weight/length and other supports in place, I've used 1x2's and 2x2's with good success. Round the edges, maybe custom cut the top portion where the mast will rest, a little varnish and you can make a pretty nice looking support that will last you a long time.

I'm sure others will have additional (and better) suggestions, but I have used this type of support on many different boats without any problems so far.. knock on wood
