Mast Support - Trailering
Yes, you should support it. Aluminum, though strong, is subject to fatigue if allowed to bounce around. You can build a support for both back and front but I built my stearn support tall enough to make it a constant downhill angle as you go forward. I lay the mast in the tabernacle to help stabilize the side to side motion and tie it at the bow, aft of the tabernacle and again close to the crutch that we made. The crutch we made uses the rudder mounts. With this being fairly high, it also serves to make it an easier angle for me to get under the mast to work in the cockpit when on the trailer and also it makes it easier to raise the mast when you already have the crutch to set it in when rigging.
