After heavy rains I found tiny leak (very slow drip) in my cat 28 cabin ceiling through one of the four nuts bolting the support column. Is that wood between celing and topside? Need to take mast off to check this? This is a 1990 boat that has been in pretty pristine shape. Any experiences with this problem? Thanks, Rick D.

Similar Stu,

But I have four bolts coming through at the top of the interior compression post which aren't shown on the diagram. Thanks for the schematic. I'm still not sure if the drips are just coming from inside the mast and post assembly or if the water is in the balsa core. Seems like I need to remove the mast to check. Right? Rick D.

The section didn't show the bolts because

their intent was to show the construction, which they say doesn't compress the deck above the compression post and below the mast. I'm not quite sure where the bolts are located, most likely around where the blocks are shown. If it was my boat, I'd take the bolt(s) out and rebed them with the caulk of your choice. I assume you can see the tops of the bolts above decks and the nuts and washers below. When the bolts are out I'd check to see what materials they go through. If it is balsa, I'd check to see if it is wet and act accordingly.
