Hello Catalina 30 Owmers,
I recently purchased a 1987 MK 2 Cat 30. My problem is the Spreader lights are not working nor is the mast head light. Is it easier to go up in a Bosins Chair or install aluminum mast steps either fixed or folding. The reason I ask is that in the future maybe lights or instruments might need attention and it would be a lot easier if permanent steps were in stalled especially if working alone. I'll wait for replys. Thanks

I had mast steps on a previous boat. Would never have them again. Don't like installing them. Don't like using them. I don't even like looking at them. I don't like 'em:cussing:

Sorry I can't be more objective about it.

As far as the installation goes, the mast has to come down. The holes have to be drilled and tapped (I would not recommend sheet metal screws). And the darned things are expensive.

Bosun's chair is my preferred way to going aloft...actually my wife's preferred way as I work the winch.

That's my $.02
