mast step repair

I had a failure of my backstay, the mast fell forward, riping out the mast steps 4 large bolts from the boat.The mast is fine as is the mast step, but an area of 7 X 7 inches where the mast step ripped out is a mess of plywood core and fiberglass, anyone repair something like this? Any suggestions? I have an oday 2o

there was a recent post with pictures on such a repair on this forum. try the search tool and see what you can find. i have not done much fiberglass repair, at least none i would brag about. but basically it involves cutting around the damage and glassing in a piece of marine plywood. some repair top deck down, others repair head liner up if it's possible to preserve the top fiberglass/gel coat layer. i am sure joe will post some websites and other references to help you out.

Please post a picture of the damage.

I have just completed a repair of the deck under my mast. The mast plate had been leaking and allowing water to seep into the core. It was rotted out.

If you can post a picture, maybe i can help. Hopefully you will not require this extensive of a repair.:cry:
