Blueranger

Hi, Hope someone can help. New to sailboat ownership. We bought a 1974 Mirgae 24. The PO dropped the mast and undid all the lines before we could figure out what goes where. I want to step the mast this coming weekend but I want to make sure all lines are where they should be at the mast head sheave before I step it. Could someone please post photos if thwey have any of what the main, jib, and spinnaker halyards look like on the mast. I'm using a gin pole to step the mast. Have never done this before. Any helpful comments would be greatly appreciated. TIA for any help anyone can provide. I'm using the set up described under "No-Fear Mast Stepping" if you look on Google. Best Regards, Mike

Stepping your mast

Hey Blue Ranger I have a Mirage 24 and I find that if you have a trustworthy friend the mast can be easily steped by hand. Here is a great web site to check out the rigging and certain quirks that our older boats have with regaurds to rigging. It has good photos and explinations. I used it to help me redo my entire masthead last year. www.treeskier.com/sailboat/mirage_24_rigging.html Stepping Your mast If you know that your stays are the correct length it is as easy as pie. Just back off you bottle screws on each stay a bit first and adjust the tension after. The first step is to connect all the stays except the fore stay. Then set the mast in the pivot step and put the bolt in. Don't tighten completely. Then walk the mast up with your friend. Mine sort of snaps into place - my friend then moves to the forestay and attaches it. Done except for rig/ tension adjustments. I have done this on the water, at the dock, and on the trailer. The mast isn't realy that heavy. good Luck My email is sawicksted@edu.pe.ca if you want to get in touch. Scott M24 Silver Lining
