Our 34 came with an asymmetric spinnaker but doubt the prior owner ever used it. I would like to fly it this season. Should I make any changes to the masthead to keep it from interfering with forestay and roller furling?

Thanks Allen that link was very helpful.
I do not understand the significance of swept back spreaders.
Also can it be flown without adding some sort of bail to the masthead so it would be less likely to foul the forestay?
The odays have internal halyards, I assume that the second can be used for a spinnaker but maybe it is just designed for a second jib halyard?

Larry,
Rig Rite sells a masthead unit that bolts on your masthead. You attach a block to that and run a spinnaker halyard external to the mast and forward of the forestay so it clears the furler and you can hoist the sail all the way up. I added it to my boat and I can't really see how to use that sail without this modification. You also need a way to connect the tack of the sail at the bow. Since the sail is so large I made a couple lines, one for each side, that I tie to my stern cleat and attach blocks to run the sheets through then the sheets come back to my primary headsail winches. This set up worked great and was inexpensive. The sail is great up to about 10 knots of wind. I don't have a sock and have to pull it in by hand so in any stronger winds that is a very tough job.

Thank you Jibes. The rig right site was very helpful. Now I know where I can get spar parts. Looks like it will all have to wait till next year when I replace the standard rigging with mast down I can add the bail and new window instrument.
