On wednesday I will be removing the mast off of my O'Day 28. I have owned this boat 3 years and I think it has had its mast up for over 10 years. It seems like this will be simple, unhook all stays and shrouds and in mast wiring and lift straight up - right? I would be happy to hear anyones tips on this. Thanks, Bob

I don't know, i have to do this on my 28 in the spring. Seems like that's what it would be, but there is always that suprise the first time you do things like this. Would you let me know what you ran into when you get it done?

Don't forget to disconnect any electronics you have. At a minimum there should be the anchor and steaming light. Do you a foredeck light? What about a masthead VHF antenna and wind instruments?
Lastly, I assume you have a crane ready? If not, you will break something.

I had my 28 moved yesterday by a professional and watched the mast removal and assisted with the restepping. It appeared to be a straight forward procedure with the use of a crane. The guy that did mine measured each turnbuckle to get him back in the ballpark on rerigging. It did take 2 people to restep. one outside and one inside to guide the mast. While I'm not ready to tackle the job again so soon, it is a very doable job....with a crane.
