I recently purchased a 94 Hunter 26 but found that the mast raising pole is missing. For a variety of reasons, the previous owner may not be accessible to find the missing pole. Has anyone ever improvised or manufactured a new pole. I need dimensions and any experience in so doing. I doubt they can be shipped from the factory via UPS or something altho I intend to check tomorrow. Thanks, Dan Christensen

A few questions

Is there a hole at the forward side of the mast a few inches up from the bottom? COs this would make it easy. So what you need to do is measure from the front side of the mast step to the U bolt in the front of the anchor well and then add to this distance the distance from the front of the mast to the back of the mast (how thick it is). Then get a length of stainless tube with a wall thickness of about 2-4 mm min. Bore a 6-8mm hole through about 20mm in from one end. Throught this you run a short piece of stainless cable ( an old shroud is good) and with either cable clamps or if you have access to a swage machine form a loop on each side of the pole. The loops should be about 50mm round. And there you have it. The head sail halyard (and the jib halyard if you want to be safe) clips onto one loop and your mainsheet to the other loop. Up she goes and off you sail. Good luck.

H-26 Mast Raising Pole

I hope that you can get an original pole from Hunter, because it is not just a matter of buying a tube and sticking it into the mast base. I have a 94 H-26 and the enclosed picture shows that the mast end of the pole is seriously notched to fit over the internal sail track housing inside the mast. I can send you a picture of the other end and the measurements, if you want. Did you get the 2 mast raising bridle wires? Do not try to raise or lower the mast without them, they are necessary.

Oops

Forgot to mention the notch at the other end that should run in the same line as the cable on the other end. (vertical)

Hunter will send new pole

Hi, My son, a very strong young man, was able to bend the pole to our h26 while attempting to raise the mast. (I had set the whole thing up wrong.) However, Hunter had the pole in stock and was able to send it by UPS or some such. I can't remember the cost, but it seems getting one properly made would be the wise thing to do. Diameter of gin pole?

Dan - Check the diameter of the hole at the base of your mast and let me know what it is. I also have a '94 H26, but I have since replaced the mast on my boat (ugly story, don't ask), and think I still have the original gin pole in my garage. If I do, and it fits, the pole is yours for the cost of shipping. T J
