We have just purchased a 1978 25' O'Day and are looking for a mast raising system.

Congrats on your "new" boat. I have a '76 and love it. If you go to teh Forum section on the home page of this site and pull down to forum archives then enter mast raising you'll get lots of examples. I've not dropped mine as it stays in the water year 'round helped a guy lower his. Three of us did it with out a lot of effort. Later, Mike

mast raising

We have to pull out in the fall and put in in the spring. I designed a system that works well using our spinnaker pole, a block and a line back to the cockpit where a sail winch finishes the job. The mast system works real well and would work single handed although a mate sure makes it easier. If your interested email me at duanekl@open.org and I will try to explain the system.

3 part upper shroads

incorporate a "triangle plate" w/3 holes one is for about10' rope which leads to a pad eye on the end of boom. both sides equal and secure. the mainsheet thru the centered travler and then to aft winch. depends on how tight the rig is you may slack the shroads a little. with mech. locked release back stay and small pin at tabernacle. triangle plates can be purchased at west marine i think.

Welcome to owning an ODay 25

I have owned an ODay 25 for 5 years now and have really enjoyed it. We do not race, but daysail and just get thw whole family and grandkids out on the water. My ony caution is to keep an anchor ready when leaving and entering port in the event you lose aux power. The boat has alot of area to catch the wind and get blown around. Enjoy. PS, I also enjoy building options for my boat, sun shade, washdown pump, solar power, etc. Bill Miller
