Would like someone to share their clever method of using the trailer winch to raise and lower the mast while the boat is on the trailer. My 75 yr old arms just don't have the juice they once had !

mast raising

There are lots of posts on mast raising in the archives,One person Ward I think Has a rather ingeneous tripod , there are pictures in the archives, some people use the mast winch others jib sheet winches I use a ramp that goes from cabintop to transom, not sure what would be best at 75 but I am heartened to know that I might still be sailing for 25 years, if I were 75 I do think I might rig up an electric winch, and use wards tripod , so check the archives, if you dont find what you are looking for feel free to email me , mmsailor@aol.com, good luck , do u dry sail or keep in slip ie is it a one time per year job or everytime u sail ?

Arturo, I don't know if you have the standard..

..Hunter mast raising system such as on the Hunter 26 foot boat. My H26 boat uses the main sheet block and tackle to raise the mast. It employs the anchor locker u-bolt, 2 temporary short shrouds and a mast insert at the base of the mast. If you have this equipment then e-mail me at " rebaray@theofficenet.com " and I will walk you thru the raising procedure by e-mail or I'll call you on the phone. ( what's that? ) I'm very crippled up myself but my wife and I raise our mast without any strain or problems. If you don't have the Hunter gear I think you might be able to use the trailer winch with a set-up similar to the Catalina 22 to 25 foot boats. I agree, don't do anything half cocked. Saving a few bucks doesn't pay off if we get hurt. Write back, I'll be here. Ray
