Last year I constructed a mast raising rig for my 86 O'Day 222, and a few people emailed me inquiring about it. I found out one thing about my mast raising rig that I thought that I'd pass along to you.I've used this same Gin Pole on a Tanzer 22 and a Bristol 24 without the bridles, and it raised those masts with the aid of my 4:1 Boom Vang block and tackle with the extra long line. I had added extra bridles on my rig because it keeps the mast stable as I raise it up or lower it down. But, as long as you have the wind directly behind the mast, and you position yourself where you can guide the mast, you shouldn't have a problem. Just make sure that the Gin Pole is secured tight to the mast with a rope, and that it fits snug around the mast, even if you have to shim it with a rag or piece of rug. Of course, it goes without saying;-- if you're doing this on the water you need to be mindful of boat traffic causing large wakes. Smooth Sailing!
