Mast raising bridle length

I have a 1993 23.5 Hunter, second owner, that came with pelican hook bridle cables that are much too long to effectively control the mast lateral movement when raising and lowering the mast. Will some good soul out there measure the bridle cable length, and anyone else explain to me if they need to have so much slack.

My cables are about 5 feet

I measured one of my cables for you. It was 5 feet long (end to end) but I would guess they have about 2 inches of adjustment. I have my bridles slightly loose when the mast is down. They loosen more as the mast is raised.Hope this helps,Mike
