Mast unstepping

Assuming you are asking about the H30G model, the mast isn't fastened to the deck, just held in place by the stays and shrouds. The step on the cabin top positions the base of the mast laterally only. The biggest challenge with this mast is getting the mast crane's collar above the lower speaders. Someone has to go up the mast (bosun's chair and main halyard) to hook up the collar when unstepping, and again to unhook it when re-stepping the mast. So, the process goes like this: secure the crane's collar around the mast below the upper spreaders, get the person safely down and out of the way, take up on the crane until it is supporting the weight of the mast (but not lifting the boat!), unfasten the turnbuckles on the foresay, backstay, and shrouds, lift the mast about 6" (no more), disconnect the electrical connector between the deck and mast, and then lift the mast off and set it down on the ground. Putting it back is just the reverse. One added complication when re-stepping is making sure all stays and shrouds are free and untangled before puttin the crane collar on and lifting the mast. If you are going to store the mast, it is best to remove the spreaders, antennae, and wind instruments, and secure the stays and halyards. Hope this helps.

secure RF

I make sure that I stick a 2X4 in the mast and secure the Roller Furling to it before lowering it to the ground.
