Does anyone have any experience mounting halyard winches on the mast of a C36? With roller-furling, it would be great to get the jib halyard out of the cockpit area.

I have two winches on my catalina 30. I must confess I have no idea how they are mounted but I imagine you will have to drill 5 to 6 holes and thread them. Not hard since I did this for mast steps. Use some sort of compound for dissimilar metals to reduce corrosion of the mast. You will also need to sew patches inside your mainsail cover to prevent chaff of the cover, not to mention you may have to get a larger cover... Richard

Mast winches

Tom; After hoisting the jib, and setting the tension to my preferences, I then cleat the jib halyard on the mast. I use a clam cleat and a horn cleat. They both line up with the halyard where it exits the mast. The halyard is first put in the clam cleat, then released from the halyard winch and cleated on the horn cleat. I saw this arrangement on a charter boat in the BVI. Mike
