Mast Mis-stepped?

I just purchased a 1970s O’day 22 that had been left in the boatyard for a year.
It will require some repairs and upgrades. I notice some small cracks in the cabin ceiling just aft of the cabin hatch. It appears the mast may have slightly deflected the cabin top, causing the cracks. The bulkhead between the salon and v-birth is about 6-8 inches forward of where the mast is stepped and does not directly transfer the load of the mast to the keel. I am surprised at this. It the mast stepped in the correct spot? If I place a post under where the mast is stepped it will compromise the “head” (port-a-potty) area. Does anyone have any ideas?
