My husband bought a tension guage and did all the lines as required. When the wind blows we can feel the sailboat shaking. The mast shakes a little and so does the boat. I was wondering if this is normal. Is there such a thing as too much tension? I know he did it exactly by the instructions, but, I was wondering if we loosen them up just a bit if it will stop the shaking when the wind blows or if we should tighten up a little more, or if the shaking is normal. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Rig Vibration
Hunters because of their deck stepped masts and B&R rigging seem to be ripe for vibration or harmonics problems, possibly with changing wind pressure or direction such as happens when in a slip. Usually you can alter the tension, or the length of one of the vibrating components and dampen the harmonic vibration. If my headstay is vibrating in the wind, I usually wrap a jib halyard around it several turns and then fasten the snapshackle to one of the staunchion bases and tension the halyard. If the back stay is vibrating, I can let up on the main sheet tension. If the mast itself is 'quivering' more backstay tension from the backstay adjuster may solve the problem. However, in general, if the rig tension is near correct, I agree with Rick that tighter is generally better.
