mast lights

I'm trying to restore the wiring of 1979 Spirit 28, the connector at the base of the mast was broken. The schematic shows a mast anchor light, a mast running light, and spreader lights. The mast itself has a white light at the top, visible 360 degrees. At about halfmast, there is a lighting fixture with two lamps, one at the top of the fixture, and one that shows from the bottom of the fixture. The two lamps at halfmast are not visible from the stern, rather they are mounted at the front side of the mast. Can anyone say which lamp is what? I'm pretty sure the top most light is the mast running light, to be illuminated when navigating under sail. Is the upper halfmast lamp the anchor light, and the lower the spreader light? The lower halfmast lamp might provide some illumination to the foredeck. Thanks in advance for your help!

OK, here goes,,

1.The top light is the anchor light. 2.The one in the middle is the steaming light. It is used with the running lights to alert others to your motor being on. 3.The lower light in that fixture is a foredeck light. (same purpose as a spreader light) Mine has a 20 watt halogen bulb that's bright enough to read a newspaper by, at night.

The lights are

The anchor light is visible 360 degrees, is used only at anchor, not at the same time as any other lights are used, and is shown from the highest practical point on the boat (usually top of the mast). The running light (AKA "steaming" light) is mounted as you indicate in the middle visible of the front of the mast, is visible 225 degrees degrees. (It complements the stern running light, which is vible 135 degrees, the two together giving 360 degree white light coverage.) It is used only when you are motoring. The spreader lights (also called "fordeck" or "deck" lights) are not legally required, but are mounted to shine down from the spreader area, to illuminate the foredeck for anyone working up there in the dark. To avoid someone who sees you confusing it with the other white lights, the spreader lights should be used only when someone is working on the fordeck, and for a minimum amount of time.
