Mast Light

Hello I'm a new owner of a 1979 Hunter 30. I have a few questions, but i will only aske the ones that are very important to me at the time. (1) I need to replace the wiring for the mast light, does anyone know of a way to do this without stepping the Mast? Any detail info will be great. (2) The Cabin sole, any suggestions on replacing it, material, ideas?My email address is: bel4real@earthlink.net.

If you 30 is similiar to my 30'

There are two lights on your mast- Steaming light above the spreaders and the anchor at the top. Both are set in the mast and the wires run in a chanel at the front of the mast to a small escape hole at the front, down throught the cabin roof to a pannel which is mounted on the support where your head is located. If this is your set-up, you need to splice and tape the new wire in the cabin and pull through to deck. Go up the mast in a chair and unscrew the steaming light and pull gently until the new wire comes through the hole. Replace with new fixture-not the old one because you only want to do this once. If this does not work- you will need to drop a fishing line with a sinker at the end down the mast. Take a wire hook or loop or magnet at the bottom to pull out and then run through the cabin roof. Doing it this way will mean the line will bang on the inside of the mast when you boat rocks and you will not be able to stop the noise unless you have tension on this wire to stop the swing.You also will need to seal where this enters the cabin roof. As to the cabin sole. If this is coming apart- you have leaks that need to be fixed first. You will have a bilge in the middle and you need to check the level of the water and how high this rises before the pump kicks in. This will take a 4x8 sheet of wood 1/4" thick. If you are going to replace with similiar material, be prepaired to spend $50-$100 for the sheet. Cut a pattern and glue (not screw) down. Make sure you have your leaks which caused the delamination fixed first.Good luck
