Mast light

As anyone run new wire for the mast? I have a 1981 22 and the wire broke off at deck level. In an attempt to pull more through the wire broke within the cabin roof just beyond reach. Any ideas?

Yes. Did this on my O'Day 25 recently. Very easy if the mast is down.

You might have to run a new wire if it's coming out of the deck. I had to run all new wires (anchor light, steaming light, windex light and coax for the antenna) through the cabin and then up through the cabin roof.

Did it with mast down. Instead of a snake I used about 3 or 4 wire hangers taped together.

Thanks folks,the problem is where the wire runs between the cabin roof interior and exterior the mast cable is intact .

Was it a continuous wire or is there a deck connector? I use a deck connector seen in photo forward and portside of the mast. Some don't like the 'science project' look or connectors protruding on deck so they connection is made within the mast step (room permitting). for a removable mask this works nicely and as a repair option may work. If the wire broke at the mast step you need to drop the mast anyway. If you mean it snakes its way between the cabin headliner and the cabin roof just run a new wire.

I'll be rewiring my entire mast next time I visit the boat.

Yeah the connector is to the port side of the mast. The plug and mast wires are fine for 33 years old. How do you run wire between the glass cabin ceiling and the fuse panel?

Keary, you can't. It is solid in there between the overhead pan molding and the deck. The builder put those wires in before he put the boat together. You will have to bring the wire down through the deck and inner molded liner and then run the wire along the bulkhead and then run it up under the side of the molding all the way back to your fuse panel. If you're 25 was like my 26, then you will have to run it down the port side and then cross in the rear somewhere to get to your fuse panel underneath the companionway But you're not going to be able to put it between the ceiling of your cabin and the deck. You can use the trim to hide the wires. It is better to bring in forward of the bulkhead so it is invisible from the salon at least
