Curious to know if anyone knows who makes the factory mast light on a 25...its a 1978 if that makes a difference. I am trying to figure out what it is before I climb the mast this spring...thanks

Is the light a dual function light for both steaming and anchoring?

Many of the lights made in 1978 are no longer made adn you may have tgo go with a generic. Please let me know to davecondon@mindspring.com and then I will confirm back on the forum. thanks.

Very good question. New to the boat so I'm not sure. I'll take a better look here in a day or so and hopefully that will help figure it out.
Thanks

I think its a steaming light as that is what is labeled on the panel. It is forward facing only as opposed to an all around white anchor light.

Is it half way up the mast or on top.
You don't normally find the steaming light at the top of the mast. If it is at the mast top and only shines forward (120 left - forward - 120 deg right) then it is steaming, if you can see it from behind or side then it is the anchor. It could also be the deck light if it shines mainly downward onto the deck.
Good luck and going up the mast is kinda fun IMHO Don't forget to take a look around while up there.

Thanks for the info. It for sure is a steaming light. Anyone know who the original maker of those lights were? Or a replacement that's an easy 'bolt up'? I don't want to climb the mast until the boat is in the water, and at that point I'd like to be able to fix it / replace it with an led without having to climb the mast 6 times...but if that what it's takes I hear hubbardo has a sweet harness.

Bill Roosa;

Not sure if you are the one whom I visited at your marina years ago. On the smaller boats FYI, there are some lights that are two in one used on small boat masts for install at the top of the mast which basically are two light bulbs with a divider between the two.

CHITOWNSAIL;

Suggest taking a pair of binoculars and look up first which would help you instead of going up the mast. Please do that and then email me with a good description. I will then respond both privately and to you what I think you have.

Just for anyone looking into the same light...the light that was on the mast was the Perko 1331 Light. Not sure if it came from the factory like this or not, but it is really worn out.

Probably more important is how the wiring is ran. My 260 has a multi-function light on top of the mast with two wires and a ground wire. One is for the steaming light (forward only) and one is for the anchor light (both steaming light and anchor light are illuminated). If your anchor light and steaming light are two separate light fixtures, then you should find two wires (one for each). If you have one fixture, then you probably have one muti-line wire that connects to the fixture (as my 260 has). Figure that out first.

Next, you need to see how you light fixture is attached to the mast. I'm thinking regardless of whether you go with factory original or aftermarket, you need to see how the current light is attached to the mast and make sure you can remove the old light and attach the new one. On my boat, I had to manufacture (using that term loosely) better attachment.

Bottomline: You are probably going to have to go up once to see what you have and a second time to do the replacement. Just the way things go. One thing nice about a 260 is you can do all of that when the mast is lowered (bought a 12 foot ladder to paint the dinning room (15 foot ceilings) and now use the ladder most often to work on the top of my mast).

Good advice. The 25 that we have only has a steaming light...adding an anchor light would be nice.
The mast is currently down, but hopefully only for a few weeks..
