Mast Light Bulbs

The masthead and anchor lights on my 1980 (newly purchased) 30h are out and I will have to go up the mast this weekend to replace. Would like to only make one trip, but have no idea what type, size, etc. bulb is used in these lights. Would anyone have an idea on bulb specifics. Thanks

check the wiring too!

If both lights are out you might have a wiring problem. When you go up and prior to replacing the bulbs check the circuit. Sorry I don't know the bulb size and type on my 81 H30. But my steaming light is out and it's a problem with the wiring.S/FDanIllusions

Bulbs

Are you sure the bulbs are out? I have a '77 h30 and the mast wiring came out the bottom of the mast and into a deck receptacle. That was the point of much corrosion and water intrusion that kept the lights from working much of the time. That problem has since been rectified. Since this is a recently purchased boat, go up the mast the first time and check everything out, rigging included. Bring a multimeter with you. If it is simply the bulbs, take them out and match them with new ones. Buy spares. At least you will know the condition of everything.-R.s/v Fraulein II

Mast wiring?

Roland, I am new owner of a 1980 27ft Hunter.The mast was removed for ground delivery to a local marina where it was reinstalled. I'm not sure the mast wiring was reconnected, since the anchor and steeming lights are not functioning. Either the bulbs are out or there may be a wiring problem. You mentioned a wirirng harness or connector. I found the wiring from the breaker box , under the galley flooring to the bottom of the mast. If there is a connector or harness,any idea where on the mast?

It seems that alot of my wirring is starting to fail. My forward running light was the first to go, it corroded threw at the base of the bow rail where it exits the deck and enters the bow. The wire was chafed from the opening in the rail. All it takes is the smallest break in the coating to allow salt into the wire where it will do its magic. I belive the same has happened to my steaming light and i'm planning on rewiring both the mast light and the steaming light. If one wire has the problem they might all have. When I'm done i'll let you know how much of a nightmare it was.

bulb size

it is most likely the same size as the stern/bow light bulbs. mine is 10 watt 12 volt. the ends are square with a dimple in the middle. the contacts of the lamp fit into the dimmples and hold the bulb. these are diffrent from most interior bulbs. they usualy have a point on each end. bring some emory cloth or sand paper with you to clean of any corrosion from the contacts and apply either a dielectric grease or a copper compound to prevent corrosion to the contacts. I dreaded my first trip aloft and still enjoy looking up than down. However the veiw from up there is almost worth the trip
