Mast leaking

New 28 ft, 1983 O'Day.....last rain storm the mast leaked into the cabin. The mast does have a mast boot which is tightened with 2 hose clamps. The boot looks like it is in good shape and does not have any noticable tears. The mast track seemed to have silicone in it to keep water from running down the track. I tightened the clamps. Any other low cost suggestions?

If you have slots in your mast to accept any standing rigging, etc., then rain can get into the mast that way too. Usually the sail track is the culprit, but if you say that is silicone sealed, then probably rule that out.

i also have an O28 and occassionally find a small puddle on the cabin deck. I would bet it's the mast boot, especially since you said the sail track has been siliconed. Water may also be leading through the hatch gasket, which could look like it's coming from the mast. Did you actually see the leaking or just the puddle after the storm?
