I have a 1981 25' that has a leak at the base of the mast that is passing through into the cabin. Has anyone had this problem and how did you stop the leak? Where did you get the parts?

Since no one has responded…

…I’ll make an attempt. I’m assuming the mast of the older H25’s passed through the deck down to the keel. If so, a mast boot would probably fix the problem (if there’s nothing in the way). If the mast is “deck stepped”, then you will have to remove the mast base plate and re-bed. Note: neither of these will fix any damage done to the core from the leak.

Deck Stepped mast

My '78 Hunter 25 had a deck stepped mast on a stainless tabernacle plus a small wiring connector for the mast head and steaming lights. I'd check the seal on the wiring and then re-bed it and the tabernacle bolts with polysulfide sealant.

Another vote for re-bedding

Best solution is to re-bed. Also check to see if the core is wet, it would be preferable to clean out any soggy wood and use epoxy (or new wood), seal any exposed areas with epoxy, and then use a good polysulfide sealant. If you need a temporary solution to hold you over until you can do that, use Captain Tolley's creeping crack cure. Manny
