I am looking for a mast holder that attaches to the stern for storing the mast and also for ease in stepping. I have seen one on a Catalina 22 but have not been able to find the supplier. Any thoughts?

If you had a full stern rail on your O'Day 222, you could make up something similar to what is on my boat. You could build the one for the bow rail right now and think about how you're going to build the stern crutch later. At any rate, you're more than welcome to copy mine. My set up not only assists in mast raising/lowering, but it works for trailering and storing with a cover over the mast which I use for the ridge pole.
When I had that mast raising attachment built for my stern rail, I use to have it so I could remove it and stow it in the cabin. I liked it left on the rail so much that I now have it bolted in place and I had a pipe made up for the yoke that I use for my flag. Some day I'll have that rail welded in place so that it can be permanent.
I have the mast crutch pipe so that I can raise it higher and pin it in place if I need to, but my mast Tabernacle sits on a 1-1/8'' Teak block which allows enough clearance over the sliding hatch for me to keep the crutch at it's lowest point and still be able to pin the mast Tabernacle with the mast rolled back and ready for raising.
It's a great set up and I'm able to raise the mast by myself with the CDI Roller Furler attached to it.
