I just posted some photos of a weekend project. I did not like the way the mast was being damaged by the harder metal of the bow pulpit, so I may have come up with a solution for a universal problem. Wood is much softer than the mast and will not damage it like the bow pulpit is doing. Let me know what you think of my project.

great idea

That is a really good idea. How did you trace out the curve of the pulpit so well?

Tracing Bow Pulpit

Kingprawn You need two pieces of 3/4 Ply and a scrap of 1x2 longer than the width of the dip in the bow pulpit. Run a sheetrock screw thru the 1x2, hold one piece of ply to the front of the bow pulpit and the 1x2 on the other side of the tubing. Whack the screw with a hammer to hold in place. Use a drill/screw gun screw the screw into the ply. Snug it up only enough to hold in place as you will be shifting it around. Have someone stand away from the bow and tell you when it is straight with the pulpit and to the height you want. Magic marker around the outside of the tubing and mark the top position of the board on the tubing. Do the same thing with the second piece of ply, but align the top with the marks on the tubing and mark the inner area of the tubing. Jig saw out the two pieces, then saw one piece to fit the mast and use if for the pattern for the second piece. Kevin go to the top of the page and find Index of Forums, click on it and then Photo Forum. You will see a number of photos of projects.
