Anyone happen to know the mast height from the deck on a Pearson 36-2? Also, does anyone have a rig tuning solution for mast pumping while at anchor, or docked. Tried a couple of things and minimized it, but still do not like this sound.

I have the measurement at the boat and will bring it home. The pumping... yes what is the solution.

Tonyjo, when you refer to mast pumping, do you mean the mast is visually/ physically moving while at anchor or docked? If so, you need to check how your mast is chocked above and below and if that is correct, you definitely have undertuned your rigging or have a broken attachment. The danger to this is that you potentially may damage the structural intergrity of your boat by the overwhelming and unnatural stresses you are creating. If you are slogging into large head seas, some pumping is inevitable, but not at anchor or the dock. You need to consult a professional rigger or a knowledgeable sailor at your home dock. In any event, I wouldn't wait too long. Best, Ron

Tonyjoe,

The mast on our 36-2 is 53 feet from the water. Don't know why the height from the deck would be important.

The mast pumping is from the mast section shape. It happens on Tartens and Bristols that used the same mast section as well. It usualy happens when the wind is several points aft of the beem and only happens when the boat is in a slip or at anchor. No amount of rigging tension will change it. Our rig is with a baby stay and it pumps and a friends 36-2 with forward lowers in place of the baby stay also pumps. Don't worry about it and enjoy the boat.

Thanks everyone. I have been out of the loop for awhile. I also have a baby stay. It does it at anchor, at a slip, and when the wind is at a certain point. I have noticed that I can ease the traveler sheet, and minimize it.
