I recently purchased a 1975 O'day 22. She has obviously had the mast replaced and it measures about 22' long. The specs that I read showed it as being 31'...of course those specs also failed to mention the shoal draft keel. Anyone familiar with what the old mast height should be?

I have same boat

My mast length is shy of 23' but my shoal draft if I am measuring properly is only 18". Why would that be? Tina

Keel depth

Tina, According to what I've read, the draft should be about 23". Between what two points are you measuring the depth of your keel? Hopefully no previous owner shaved off the bottom of it! I have not yet launched my 22 (waiting for paperwork for the trailer...aaargh) so I couldn't verify what she draws.

measuring the keel

I measured the keel from the bottom of the hull, straight down at the center of the keel. I couldn't imagine another way to measure it. Is that right? I hope nothing has been shaved off. Tina

Keel depth

Tina, The 23" measurement that was given is for the draft, or total amount of water that the boat draws when afloat. Measuring from the bottom of the hull down the keel would give you about the number you told me. Sounds fine to me. Jinks
