My ODay 25 doesn't have one, so I will install before launch in May. Any suggestions and what is required? Thanks. Ric

A masthead light (or steaming light) can be positioned just above the spreaders.( I believe that it should shine 270 deg.) It should be on when your are under engine power. Some lights come with dual steaming/deck lights which will illuminate the deck as well. The light at the top of the mast (not to be confused with masthead light) is an anchor light and must be on when at anchor. ( you may use a protable anchor light ( I have a scotty portable anchor light whih I raise with a halyard and uses a light sensor to turn on and off) This light must have a 360 deg. field of view and be seen at least 2 NM. from the boat i hope this helps.

Maestro was correct in placement, but off in degrees. It is suppose to cover from forward to 22 1/2 degress abaft the beam on both sides, or a total of 225 degrees. It is not wise to use this light for anything other than when the engine is on. It is sometimes incorrectly used to show light on the jib when sailing at night. According to the Rules of The Road, this indicates that the vessel is under power and is treated as such and not as a sailboat.
