Can anyone tell me the screw size for the screws on the mast gate? I believe it's the smaller gate, holes are 3.5" on center. Thanks

On our 25's we replace the slide lock with the mast gate. This enables flatter reefing....the slugs can go down much farther with the mast gate than they can with the slug.

I don't know if it is the same gate as our C-320, but we were able to obtain a new gate and knurled screws for very reasonble price from Layline.

Hey Joe Diver,

I have the slug stop as well and I'm experiencing the same thing; however, I feel it would be counter-productive to mount mast gates on a trailer sailer. Installing and removing the mast gates would wallow out the screw holes as many times as I plan to launch and retrieve. If they made spring loaded mast gates, that would probably be more like what I need. So I keep looking for an alternative and continue to use the slug stop.

Yeah, I keep mine in a slip...most of us do...even though the C25 (the swingers mainly) are considered trailer sailors, most don't use them that way. My slip neighbor 2 boats down has a winger and he trailers to different lakes. Mine's a fixed keel so not nearly as easy to get on/off the trailer.

I had the same problems on my boat with the sail slugs falling out of the track while single handing and bought the sail stop to keep that from happening but then the flaked sail wouldn't fit under the sail cover. So I ordered the mast gates from CD and have been thinking about the installation: My thoughts are to install one side on the mast per instructions, fit the other side to the mast track but to cut the screw holes in the gate into slots and then use thumb screws on that side so the gate never has to come off the mast. Loosen the thumb screws, slide the gate to the side and take your sail off. Finding some knurled screws as opposed to regular thumb screws should keep everything neat and snag free around the sail there. Has anyone else ever tried something like this?

Thanks GorillaToast. I picked up a few sizes that I thought would be close this week and that was among them. I thought I looked around the CD site pretty thoroughly before I posted. Where did you see this info?

I just typed "mastgate" into the search box.
