mast for 192

Am looking at buying an O'DAy 192 but the one I am looking at has a bent mast due to lashing it too tightly on deck for storage..could bend be reversed? owner has been sailing it for 2 years that way..he probably sails in circles!!!! how much $$$for a new mast...Thanks, Ron

I hate it when that happens Yes, the bent mast can be fixed if the damage isn't too severe. The problem in bending aluminum is that it isn't a pure metal it is an alloy. The metal forms into layers and when bent some are damaged, the harsher the bend the more irreversible damage that is caused. I would try and fix what I have, if it isn't too bad. If there is any question about it's reliability, replace it. God Bless and smooth sailing
