Mast electrical problem

Recently both the steaming light and the anchor light stopped working on my Hunter 27 (1982). Both bulbs had been replaced in April when we launched and they were both working fine. One night while on a cruise we left the anchor light on all night and in the morning turned it off. That night when I attempted to turn on the anchor light again it was dead. I noticed then that the steaming light was also dead. It seemed unlikely to me that both bulbs had burned out at the same time (no big electrical event like lightning, etc.) so I began to look for fuses or some other disruption in the circuit to the mast. I could not find anything and I was hoping someone could help me. Is there a common ground wire or something else I could check to try to fix this problem without going up the mast? Thanks for any insights you may have. Eric Miller "Acadia" Northern Chesapeake Bay

same problem

I am having exactly the same problem as you described. My boat is a 2000 H260. When we went out the other night for the fireworks I played around with the plug at the mast base and by pushing it in a certain direction got it to work momentarily. I strongly suspect corosion in the female end of the plug. Tried to clean it but no luck. Got a new plug from WM ( They only have them with four contacts, doesn't matter) I will install this one this afternoon and also lubricate the prongs with conducting stuff from Radio Shack. That should fix it. S/V Endless Summer

probably a bad wire

not sure how this is wired but since both seem to be out, I would look at the ground side. But test the bulbs to make sure they are bad! You are just assuming a wiring problem and not a bulb problem. I had the mast on my '79 rewired a few years back. After that many years, suff gets corroded, and fails.

Same problem too ...

Also happened on 7/4. Turned out to be the female ens of the plugs in the deck, which I replaced and now they both work fine.
