I need the drawing and/or any pictures ya'll may have for the mast crutch on the Hunter 23.5 water ballasted boat. I asked Hunter and they sent me the wrong drawing and say that's all they have. I'm getting ready to pull out for the winter and need to have one fabricated.

Here is a link to the Hunter technical drawing:

http://www.mrunix.net/h23/docs/h23-mast-crutch.pdf

It's titled as for the H23, but dated 1992 which is when the 23.5 production started, so they probably just forgot to add the '.5' to the title. The only problem I see is that it doesn't have the tabs to slip over the rudder pintles and seems to require some guy wires/ropes to hold it in place. If the 23.5 rudder attachment is the same as the 23, then you might want to look at this drawing for the H23 mast crutch dated from 1985 and is attached using the rudder pintles:

"Mast Crutch" is the right diagram

I could not see where it showed the length mine is 7' long. On the 23.5 it does not rest in the gudgeons it rests on a lip at the bottom of the transom

I got the drawing from Hunter for the 23 and it says it is 85" long which sounds about right with what Rick measured. The problem with the drawing is the bottom of the post shows a plug. It looks like there is a fitting on the lip for the crutch to fit into like Rick describes so I can't figure out the plug?

There is a Plasctic sorta Cap on the Lip

Maybe that is what is in the drawing

It has been some time since securing a mast crutch to the back end of the 23.5 but as I recall, that pole slipped thru a a stainless steel strap shaped for that pole and then into the bottom retainer. I may be wrong on that but it did not rest on the rudder pintels. Heck, my memory on that is not as good since I introduced that boat in August, 1991 for the model year 1992 for Hunter.

Anyone with a 23.5 on a trailer, please snap a photo of the mast crutch on the back end of the boat transom and please post here to help everyone. Many thanks.

The previous Owner found the mast crutch and gave it to me the other day. The first drawing that Brad gave a link to is the correct drawing. The only mistake I saw is it calls for a cap on both ends and the lower end is not capped so it can fit into the fitting on the lip of the transom. Thanks for all the help!!
