We recently purchased a Hunter 280 and will have to transport it to Colorado and a new trailer as very few 280s have trailers. The question is that I purchased a Mast Crutch from Hunter and as they have sold very few of these, they did not have any instructions as to setting it up. The base of the Mast Crutch is an open pipe and I am concerned about the damage to the boat's surface. Has anyone used a Hunter Mast Crutch?

I made mine out of 2X4
Mine was on a Hunter 27 but the specs arent that different. I made a plywood base with padding and set it in the cockpit. I then tied off the top of the crutch to the port and starboard winches and the stern railings. I later made one from aluminum, but wood is just as good for a one-time trip. If you are near Denver, you may want to visit a dealer called the Anchorage Longmont Co. They REALLY know how to trailer the 27 and 28 ft. boats. They also rep. Performance Trailers who make a trailer for your boat. The Anchorage is in the dealer listing on this site (I have no affiliation with them) Ward
