Question - just bought an O'Day 19. I am interested in finding a way to cradle the mast when trailering. Right now am just laying it on cushions and strapping it down. Thinking to jury rig a support that will fit over rudder gudgeons. also have enough height to assist in raising the mast. Would also appreciate any ideas on using a block & tackle or mounting a winch to assist in raising the mast when out on solo trips, which is often

mast raising and support pictures
Check the last three pictures on page one of this link to get pictoral answers to your questions of mast support during trailering and mast raising when alone. I hope to post pictures of the process of solo mast raising sometime, but it is so easy, that I am not sure if they are needed. I can raise the mast using this method, with one hand, and easily support it with with the jib halyard in the other hand. I own a daysailer II, but I think the mast length is similar. I am pretty sure that the tabernacle is the same from other pictures I have seen of the 19.

sail mounting
I was given an oday daysailer 19 ft. on a trailer and the boat is in good shape. The wood is all good and it appears that everything is there except the sails and rudder. I have been trying to find used sails but do not know how they mount on the mast. I bought a used sail that I can adapt but the metal clips that slide up the track in the mast don't fit. I can't find a picture or mention of what they should look like or where to get them. I obviously know very little about sailing but am anxious to learn and live in an area with a lot of lakes. Can anyone help me out ?

Not sure if this will solve your problem or not. If the sails are meant for your model of boat, removing the sail slugs that you describe (and don't fit), should leave you with a bolt rope (the rope sewn into the front (luff) of the mainsail). This boltrope should slide into the mast track. If not you will have to buy slugs that DO fit into your mast track, then replace them on your sail. BTW sail mounting is called bending on the sail... welcome to sailing argh matey!
