Hi For some unknown reason, I don't see a 17' O'Day listed as an option to choose from. I do see 15 & 19 but 17??? My vessel is an O'day. ??? Anyhow, on to my question. I believe I did see an O'day, such as mine that had the mast modified with a tabernacle mount and it was a 17' O'day. Has anyone attempted a like modification and did they modify the existing mast or did they purchase a different mast? Obviously, with such a modification, the existing mast would have to be shortened (cut) and pinned? Not having a mooring, I trailer the boat each outing and find the task of inserting the mast very daunting to say the least. In other words, there has to be a better way for a day sailor such as myself who is alone to launch this boat. Any assistance and advice would certainly be appreciated. Al

DS II

The Oday 17 is properly called a DS I II or III depending on the model. D&R marine has the tabernacle you need to do your own conversion. http://www.drmarine.com/proddetail.asp?prod=DS208 Also your boat model has its own forum. Check it out at http://www.daysailer.org/index.php There are numerous people there (including myself) that have this conversion, making mast raising a one person task. I owned a DS II for a number of years and have written a book on maintenance and repair, if you are interested. E-mail me at roger02@mts.net and I can send you details.
