Recently acquired 2004 Hunter 33. Water intrusion issue at mast base through cabin roof to compression post and affecting forward bulk head timber. Mast is self furling Selden variety. Interested to know if anyone has had similar issues and potential fixes. Appreciate any advice price to removing mast.

LBD...

the wetted compression post is a common problem faced by other Hunter models too. Check out the Hunter Owner Modifications for a number of postings solving this problem. Many of us with later model H34's have done this repair and it's well documented on the Big Boat Forum.

If the compression post is already starting to rot you should relieve the tension in the shrouds first. The rig should come down as soon as possible before any further damage occurs. If it's just wet but still structurally sound you might get away with repairing the water leak and be done.

You may want to check the cap that covers the wires leading from the mast into the interior. I've had water come through there before. Do you notice wet all the time or just occasionally.
