Mast/Boom issues

We have 2 issues with our mast:

1) the triangular pivot on the mast that the boom attaches to appears to be a cast aluminum part ... at the top and bottom of the triangle is a pin shape with nylon or Teflon sleeves … these are then attached to the mast with riveted U shaped clamps. At issue is the bottom pin has worn to the point it looks like a half moon. I am concerned that this is going to fail at some point. Would anyone know what this part is called and what can be done to fix it?

2) Halfway through the summer we start having trouble raising our mainsail … when the sail is halfway up the mast we have to use the winch to muscle the sail up the rest of the way … we think it’s a combination of the track getting dirty over the summer plus some of the slugs that are tied (where the batten’s are located in the sail) have a tendency to be misaligned to the track. After we have cleaned the track and all the slugs and applied some silicon, the sail can be raised by hand at least for a couple months … since we have moorage we now only step our mast once at the end of the season. Is there something we could use to clean the track with the mast up … or … perhaps there is some way to better secure the batten slugs so they won’t bind?

I'm pretty sure your Hunter 235 used the same Z-190 spar section as my old Beneteau First 235. The original gooseneck was a thoroughly stupid design. I think it was you are talking about.

Over time the pins wear and there is no way to fix it but remove one half (upper or lower) mast bracket by popping the rivets and replace part 1188 and the two bushings.

US spars makes the mast. The MIGHT have those parts left, I know they were getting low. After several years they saw the light and redesigned the gooseneck so that would not happen. The new park looks like the one show here.

We found that over the summer months at the dock spiders would build nests in the track . From time to time I would unattach the main halyard from the sail and I use to tie something to it inside the track and then tie a line to bring it back down like a down haul . I would usually use some wd 40 and run it up and down a few times using care not to get it stuck going up or down . I recall using a q tip bent in half one time . This usually got us to the end of the year and it got a good cleaning in the spring . West marine had a good lubricant I used on the track and slugs as well that made raising and lowering a lot easier . Hope this makes sense .

Z spar originally built the mast but for reasons which I will not go into, they left many years ago. U. S. Spars basically is Z spar parts and masts and I would direct you there to their site for parts.
